The cuisine is the beating heart of the Refuge

The Chef and his collaborators express their imagination and dedication by creating dishes that satisfy and… spoil! Even if workspaces and the accessibility of raw materials are difficult, the commitment is maximum to guarantee the best quality.
The refuge’s kitchen offers a menu linked to the Belluno culinary tradition: simple and tasty dishes made with raw materials from the local area.

You’ll have the opportunity to try fresh pasta, the famous “Canederli” or gnocchi, game, mushrooms, local cold cuts, cheeses coming directly from the mountain huts, and seasonal vegetables.

The refuge can satisfy the needs of the vegetarian customers, offering them soups, creams, minestrone, and more.

Dishes are accompanied by a list of wines originally from the northeast of Italy and selected from the excellences of the territory.

Beer lovers will not be left high and dry: they can choose from an assortment of fresh local draft beers and refined artisan bottled beers.

Overnight stay

The refuge has 2 dormitories (with 10 and 12 beds) and 2 bedrooms with 4 beds, for a total of 30 beds.

There are 4 toilets per floor, 2 of them equipped with hot water showers (for a fee). The refuge also offers additional services to overnight guests:

– Slippers
– Wifi
– Terrace with deck chairs

100 years of history

The Refuge owes its name to the original owner, the Venetian painter Enrico Scarpa and the engineer Ohannes Gurekian who met here, linked by a great passion for the mountains.

On 12 September 1912, Enrico Scarpa (1891-1935) made the chalet accessible by using it as a private studio and dedicating it to his daughter, born from the marriage with the noblewoman Itala Teresa Casari. When he died, his daughter transformed the chalet into a refuge for hikers.

The engineer Gurekian, on the other hand, after escaping the Armenian genocide and after a period of study in Asolo (TV), found hospitality in Frassenè Agordino and fell in love with it. Here he founded the first Pro Loco in Italy. He then became president of the CAI section of Agordo, designing the alpine works for the Carestiato and Duran refuges. Moreover, he followed the renovation and expansion of the Scarpa Refuge.

In the sixties, it became the property of the section of the CAI of Agordo, which classified it as a refuge following suitable and subsequent adaptation and expansion interventions.

Management

Since summer 2018, the refuge has been managed by the Alpine Guide Marco Bergamo and his partner Paula.

We are young mountain lovers, driven by the strong desire to manage a refuge in one of the most enchanting places in the Dolomites. We would like to contribute to support the local economy, to make these landscapes known to those who have never seen them before, and to make those who have always lived them appreciate them even more.

We aim at offering a “real” refuge, a place of meeting, transit, and rest, of stories told around the larìn and welcome by people who go to the mountains every day of the year: Marco, expert UIAGM mountain guide and profound connoisseur of the Agordino area, is the one who passionately believed in this project, offering the possibility to our little family (including the dog Scott and the cat Frida) to fully experience this wonderful place.

We want to offer the maximum hospitality service and the best possible care, always respecting the natural environment that surrounds us. We believe in sincere tourism based on the connection with nature and personal growth.
